Johnny Langan's second touchdown of the game, midway through the fourth quarter, proved to be the difference as Bergen Catholic pulled out a tough football win over Pope John. The Crusaders' defense was the real star in the 14-7 road triumph. Bergen Catholic held the Lions to under 230 total yards of offense and made several big stops throughout the game. Pope John's last drive ended when pressure on the quarterback by Vinnie Martin forced an errant throw on a fourth-down play.
Langan threw for 186 yards and ran for 52 to pace the Bergen Catholic offense, which was also largely held in check. Ankaury Camilo caught five passes for 63 yards for the Crusaders, while Andrew Vito and Dylan Classi had 60 and 53 receiving yards, respectively. Martin recorded eight tackles and a sack for Bergen Catholic, while Shqipron Idrizi recorded 10 tackles. Ty Hranicka went 13-of-26 passing for 111 yards for Pope John, including a 10-yard throw to Jason Miller for the Lions' only touchdown. Hranicka also ran for 47 yards while Christian Izien had 48 rushing yards for Pope John. The Lions' defense, led by Artis Hemmingway and Amir Porter, put a ton of pressure on Langan throughout the game, recording several sacks. Pope John also got interceptions from John Cotis and Chris Rodriguez. Bergen Catholic is 5-2 heading into its showdown with arch-rival Don Bosco Prep this coming weekend.
