VIDEO: Cedar Grove charges to victory over North Warren | ||

This season hasn't gone according to plan for Cedar Grove's football team after it reached the sectional final last year. But the Panthers showed that they wouldn't quit despite their disappointment, storming to a 42-0 home win over North Warren. Hard-nosed running behind a powerful offensive line allowed Cedar Grove to pile up 276 rushing yards in the Senior Night triumph. The Panthers averaged more than 10 yards per carry.
Ryan Turi ran for 120 yards on just six attempts, including a touchdown. Dan DiPrenda carried 11 times for 72 yards and a pair of scores, and Joe McCarthy had 43 yards rushing and two touchdowns as well. Sammy Ventola provided the air support for the Panthers, completing nine of his 10 passes for 164 yards. Ventola's touchdown pass to Joe Rufo opened the scoring; Rufo ended up with four catches for 55 yards and that touchdown. Rufo and Jake Ferrera had interceptions for Cedar Grove. North Warren had some success moving the ball, but could not finish off any drives. The Patriots' difficult season continues as they fall to 0-7. Despite the win, Cedar Grove was officially eliminated from playoff contention in the extremely strong North 1, Group I bracket due to other results. The 4-4 Panthers will face Shabazz in their regular-season finale before playing a consolation game.
