Montclair enjoyed a tremendous regular season in girls' soccer, going 19-1, and also captured the Essex County title. Now the Mounties are looking to translate that success to a state level.

They took a strong first step with an 8-1 win over Passaic Tech in the opening round of the North 1, Group IV playoffs. Top-seeded Montclair got three goals from Jillian Jennings as it scored seven times in the first half.

Brittany Cooper had a goal and an assist for the Mounties.

Montclair, now 20-1, moves on to face eighth-seeded Fair Lawn in the second round on Thursday.

Passaic Tech, the 16th seed, finishes its season at 6-10-2.
